The
Rhodesian Teak (Baikiaea Plurijuga)comes out of our
own forestry concessions in the North Western region of Zimbabwe. It is very strictly
controlled by the Zimbabwe Forestry Commission. The forest is a
multi-hardwood forest with about 100 species of which two species are
currently being cut out of the forest. There is no clear cutting in the
forest. Only certain size trees can be cut and all small trees are left to
grow up through the forest canopy. The Rhodesian Teak recoppices, which
means that the tree will re-grow from the stump of the tree.
The timber is then transported to our
small sawmill where it is dried in computer controlled kilns to the
desired moisture content. This helps ensure that the finished product will
withstand extreme climatic conditions.
The Rhodesian Teak is extremely hard, dense
and durable and as a result these characteristics make almost
indestructible high quality furniture. It is highly scratch and dent
resistant and consequently prolongs the beauty of the table. Additionally,
the tight grain of the wood has great character and beauty.
