Why 8 foot pool tables are the most popular home size
An 8 foot pool table, often called the "home eight", is the size most homeowners choose. The extra foot over a 7ft bar table makes the game noticeably more demanding: shots need more precision, safety play opens up and the balls spread further on the break. Yet an 8ft table still fits standard-sized game rooms and dining rooms where a 9ft table would not. Whether you play casually or want a table to grow into, it is the most versatile size we make.
What size room do you need for an 8 foot pool table?
Allow a room of approximately 13' 4" x 17' for an 8 foot table with standard 58-inch cues. That gives every player room for a full stroke on rail shots without hitting the wall. If your room is slightly smaller, shorter cues help, but measure carefully before you choose a size.
Not sure your room is big enough? Compare our 7ft pool tables for tighter spaces, or step up to 9ft tournament-size tables for larger rooms. Many of our table pages also include a View in My Room tool, so you can see the table at full size in your space on your phone.
Built for real play
Our 8ft tables typically use 1-inch, diamond-honed slate for a playing surface that stays flat and rolls true for the life of the table, with BCA-approved K-66 profile cushion rubber for consistent rebounds. See how they are made on our table construction page.
Find your style
Because 8ft is the most common home size, it is where we offer our widest range of designs, from classic tables such as the Washington and Filmore to more contemporary styles. Many 8ft tables also take a dining table conversion top, so the table works as a dining table when the game is over. Browse every size on our pool tables page, then find a dealer near you to see your table in person.
8 foot pool table FAQs
Why is the 8ft table considered the "sweet spot" for home use?
The 8ft table, often called the "home eight", is the most popular size for residential buyers. It offers a more challenging game than a 7ft table, which helps you build skill, while still fitting comfortably into standard-sized dining or game rooms where a 9ft table would not.
How does an 8ft table compare to the 7ft bar tables I'm used to?
You will notice a real difference. The extra foot of length demands more precision on every shot and opens up defensive play and ball spreading. It is an excellent upgrade for players moving from casual bar games to more strategic play at home.
What size room do I need for an 8 foot pool table?
Ideally, a room of approximately 13' 4" x 17' for an 8ft table with standard 58-inch cues. That gives you enough space to play rail shots without bumping the wall. If your room is smaller, a 7ft table or shorter cues may be the better choice.
Do you offer the widest selection of styles in 8ft?
Yes. Because 8ft is the most common residential size, it is where we offer our most extensive range of designs, from classic styles such as the Washington and Filmore to more contemporary looks. You are most likely to find your exact style match in this size.
Where can I buy an 8 foot pool table?
Our tables are sold through authorized dealers across the US. Use our dealer finder to locate the nearest one, where you can see 8ft tables in person, get pricing and arrange delivery and professional installation, which matters for a slate table that needs to be leveled correctly.
